MY BLOG ENGINE NEEDS A NAME

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 25 2004 @ 10:04 PM

I think the day I shaved for the last time was the same day I posted my last blog entry. So, when I looked at the mirror this morning, I created a new measurement scale for my blogging absence. Although I haven't blogged much lately, I have been working on the blog itself.

Work continues to keep myself unavailable for much else. However, I have been working on significant enhancements to my blogging engine, both at the client and the server side of the application. The funny thing is that the updated version is not being used here yet, it is currently powering the blog of an upcoming Flash Video resource (we will launch the site in the following days, so stay tuned).

Anyway, while in beta, I gave my blog engine the codename "Hades", but it sounds kinda obscure for a formal name. So, I'm still thinking about a suitable name for my unspammable (*cough*) blog engine. It's not like I'm planning a commercial distribution operation, I'm just tired of calling it "my blog engine" :) So, if you have any suggestions, feel free to drop in.

I will publish the source files after updating this site, and the next task will be developing a Flash interface for the engine, but that depends on whatever free time I have available.

Well, Hades being hell itself, i don't know what could be more obscure than that :)

Call it "Blogscar" or being a bit more dramatic: "Izanami": When Izanami died giving birth to the god of fire, Izanaki felt he couldn't live without her, so he went to the underworld to retrieve her. Since she'd already eaten, she couldn't go back. She asked him not to look at her on his way, but he did and was so horrified he placed a rock as barrier to keep the dead on their side of the underworld.

Plog? lol, what would that be...? It doen't sound bad though.

In general, it's not like I don't like my name, because I do... hehe, but I'd prefer not to name anything directly after myself, unless it is my actual child, of course :)

Thanks for all your suggestions Moises, but I think stuff like "blogzone" or "blognet" might be already in use by other products. However, "blogOne" would be my choice among your entries.

"FutureSplash 2"? Macromedia would sue me Matt :)

"Hades" doesn't literally mean "hell", as far as I know it means "underground", which was taken as a direct synonym to "hell" during the time religious people thought hell was underground. So, there you go, I was thinking about underground, not hell itself :)

well, Hades is a greek god actually (i think), brother of Zeus, who lived and rule in the underworld (i think). I'm going to trust me on this one, and not going to go search it in google :) my brain is gettin too lazy and everytime i ask for some info it just says "google it, man"!!! :)

But you are right! Hades, brother of Zeus, is the lord of the dead and ruler of the underworld, which is referred
to as the 'domain of Hades' or, by transference, as Hades alone. And after that comes the other story...
