FLASH PLAYER 6 TO 7 HEADACHES

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 2003 @ 12:36 PM

Now that version 7 of the Flash Player has reached out from the beta stage and become the latest official version, you may find some trouble accommodating your code for it. Take your time to review your scripts and try them out with the new version of flash to find out if they still work as intended.

Even if you export your work for version 6 of the player, you may want to refurbish your code and reform your ActionScript programming anyway, to work with Flash 7; after all, version 7 is what its being installed in users computers from now on, and you don't want to redo your work anytime soon.

Give special consideration to case sensitivity. It wasn't supported in previous versions of Flash Player, unless you specifically asked for it invoking the undocumented
//1<\/div> pragma. As you can read in the documentation provided in the Flash MX 2004 download, case sensitivity in Flash Player 7 affects not only internal and external variable names, but files loaded with
//1<\/div>.
