CENTRAL, CENTRAL....TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 2003 @ 01:46 PMSince the beta program has gone private, the community has just stopped talking about Central (at least publicly) and the general public wonders if the promise stands still. But Macromedia's silence on Central could also be a marketing move to regain 'the surprise element', don't you think? Who knows, it really doesn't matter. What matters is that the product is being questioned by the prospective users/promoters.
I was just reading this post on Sean Voisen's blog, and it seems like he has lost his faith in Central. Discussion has indeed moved toward the release of Studio and Flash MX 2004, making Central fade away like a dream after we wake, even though its release is due before the end of the year. As Sean, I've been hearing/reading discouraging statements from friends and colleagues regarding Central. Lack of information and discussion make people wonder if Central will be ever released to the public, maybe it was just a dream. Others have already digested all the limitations Central puts to their application ideas, and wonder if they will ever use the product if they can deliver their own applications independently. One thing is true, Macromedia will need a new marketing approach to sell Central upon it release. In the current scenario, "Second at half the price" campaigns won't work. People need to need Central, and creating demand is one of the toughest Marketing exercises. And keep in mind that Macromedia not only has to sell the SDK, but the client side as well...
