Adobe User Groups Calendar
I've been using Google Calendars for a while now, and the feature I love love the most is the ability to share live calendars with other people. As somebody that needs to coordinate efforts with people I can't meet with in person, this is especially useful. However, another advantage is being able to subscribe to public calendars and publish your own. So, I have created a public calendar that features the regular schedule for Adobe User Groups meetings in the NYC area. You can subscribe to it using one of these links:
iCal
XML
HTML (Use this one if you are using Google Calendars)
I have started with the ones I know about; if you know of a group that is not in the calendar, please let me know. I am also open to include more groups from other areas, and give access to their leaders so they can update their events themselves.
Search by sketching
Great new way to look for images: you sketch a silhouette, and the application returns everything that kind of looks like your drawing. Couldn't be simpler. Check it out here.
Retrievr is an experimental service that allows you to search through Flickr images by doing sketches (fun!) as opposed to just inputing keywords (boring). You can also upload an image and let the service match it against the Flicker imagebase.
Here is what people have been searching.
Connect on LinkedIn
To add up to the recent blog posts about LinkedIn, I want to offer my testimonial. I've using LinkedIn for a while now, and it has allowed me to connect with lots of interesting people, from prospective employers and clients, to old friends and colleagues. If you are not using it yet, you are probably missing out.
Thanks to LinkedIn, I have established new business relationships with people that couldn't have contacted me otherwise. Same thing with employment offers: although ultimately I got my current job through an ad in the FlashcodersNY list, I got many leads from people that are now part of my LinkedIn network. Also, reviewing your new co-workers' profiles can give you the means for a faster integration in your new place of work.
